October 2009: well do you believe it, I actually had 2 people come up to me in China and say hello after being on our website! The wine world is a small place! All our mail order customers will be the first to know, so if you want to join, just e-mail us at office@arlewood.com.au Opening specials guaranteed!! WOW!!!

June 5th, 2007: I'm just back from a west coat of USA roadtrip to launch our wines in California and Washington State. It is such a thrill to see our wines appreciated in different parts of the world. Here is our man in San Francsico Bob Sawicki at our tasting at the infamous Trader Vic's. Would you buy wine from this man? YOU BET!!! If you see him, ask him about his dog.

May 2nd, 2007: The reputation of the Arlewood Cabernet Sauvignon just keeps growing. Just like the 2001 and 2002 before it, the 2003 vintage is starting to generate some hot press. The most recent scribe to join the chorus is Peter Forrestal in this week's Bulletin magazine. With only 36 dozen made, and less than 100 cases left, please act swiftly to secure some. Great current drinking, or worth putting into the cellar for up to 10 years.
March 13th, 2007: A big thank you to Julian & James from The Wine Treasury in London for making the trek to The Antipodes to share the joys of Harvest 2007 with us. We had a smashing week, and even learnt the correct way to pronounce "Sauvignon". A highlight (apart from taking nets off in 40 degree heat!) was the vertical tasting we set up culminating in 8 vintages of Arlewood Cabernet Sauvignon; never before assembled. Witness.........

February 21st, 2007: For all you lovers of the fine post prandial ritual of taking a cigar, we have the perfect event. We are hosting one of the legendary Cigar Dinners at Perth's The Bluewater Grill in Applecross on Friday March 16th; and showcaseing all our new releases. Come along if you are in town and in need of a blow. Bookings can be made by calling The Bluewater directly on 9315 7704.
February 14th, 2007: Exciting day today. Not Valentine's Day, but we have just secured our new agent into California! Bob Sawicki of the Tamalpais Wine Agency will be distributing our wines in a metter of weeks (or as soon as we can get all approvals and ship the wine there). You can contact Bob on sawicki@pacbell.net. Wow!! Stay tuned for more.
January 29th, 2007: We are just back from Europe after showing our wines at Wine+ - the new restaurant trade show in London, and spending a few days with Andreas our Swiss agent in Zurich. Our new releases were very well received, and we secured some sensational listings in restaurants. If in London, you must dine at either Petrus at the Berkley Hotel, or at Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill. Our wines feature on their great wine lists. Check out The Wine Treasury Team, our agents in London - looking pretty smart, eh what!!

November 21st 2006: Here we go - it's new release time again! I am pleased to introduce the 2004 Arlewood Chardonnay (best yet!) and 2005 Arlewood "Loc 3991" SSB ( this is our 'reserve' Graves style blend). The Chardonnay is a beauty - all spine and flesh, with great citric acidity. The "3991" is one our best wines made - only the second vintage to be released (the last was the multi awatd winning 2002) and it's all about structure and finesse. A sensational food wine. Check them out on this site and place your order!
November 7th 2006: Here we are in Hong Kong to host some dinners and tastings, whilst licking our wounds after a serious working over in Singapore. The response to our wines at Wines For Asia last week was fantastic. If you are in Singapore, check out the excellent range of Arlewood (and other fine wines) at Le Vigne, 40 Holland Grove Road. Here we have Pat, Lewis and Garry looking pretty happy, don't you think? Spot the Arlewood labels?

October 31st, 2006: Calling all Arlewood drinkers in Asia! We will be showing our wines at Wines For Asia in Singapore from Nov 2 - 4 inclusive. The show is at Singapore Expo, so call past to taste our new releaes and have a chat with us. What an opportunity!
September 29th, 2006: What about Victoria you say? Well, we now have Woods Wines as custodians of the Arlewood wines in Victoria. Yep - you need to talk to Elizabeth Woods for all your Arlewood wines to the trade. You can contact Elizabeth on 0412 281 965 or at topwines@bigpond.net.au Yippeee!!
September 26th, 2006: STOP PRESS!! We are thrilled to be working with Zoo Wines as our new wholesale distributors to the trade in Sydney. They have now received our full range of wines, and you can access them by contact Christian Gibson on 0413 412 322 or at christian@zoowines.com.au Go get 'em!
September 2006: What do the scribes think of our rapidly vanishing Cabernet Sauvignon 2002? Tim White - 92 points, James Halliday 92 points, Ray Jordan 93 points. Pure affordable luxury. What do you think of it? What was that you say - you haven't got any?!
July 27th, 2006: STOP PRESS!! At the Winewise Small Vingeron's Awards 2006, we have picked up 2 GOLDS! Our Semillon 2004 has picked up a Gold in Class 4 and our Chardonnay 2004 Gold in Class 16. You'll have to be patient for the Chardonnay 2004 for a while, but the Semillon 2004 is all yours now, by clicking HERE!
July 2006: Calling all Arlewood supporters on the East Coast of Australia. Make your way to Wine Australia 2006 at Darling Harbour between July 15 - 17. Visit us in the WA Pavillion and try our newest releases and have a chat!
May 2006: "Margaret River Cabernet - the jewel in the New World Crown?" We posed this question in a Master Class we conducted during Food & Hotel Asia in Singapore recently. There is no definitive answer of course, but gee, they looked good alongside some superstar wines from the Old and New World. And the Arlewood Cabernet 2002? Clearly a favourite wine amongst the class! Now released!
February 27th: It's a real thrill to get on a plane for 24 hours, and hop off to see your wines on a wine list in a restaurant at the other end. That's exactly what we discovered in London and Zurich recently. In London, check out The Capital Hotel or perhaps the The Mint Leaf for some great Indian food washed down with an Arlewood SSB 2004. Or perhaps a few glasses of Arlewood Chardonnay 2002 at LO, on the banks of lake Zurich, or at La Tavola in Bruttisellen. Here we are ordering Arlewood off the list - and yes.......it's still cold.

February 14th: Been a while between drinks, but the latest is Terry & Martin (the marketing & logistics team) have just returned from the Australia Day Tasting in London with our UK wine partners, The Wine Treasury. Good news all round, plenty of Arlewood being drunk in some swank London restaurants and gastro-pubs. The guys also did a stop-over in Zurich to have a drink with Andreas Baumgartner, our Swiss connection, and the same there other than some resistance to our move away from cork and into screwcap closures. Consistent quality without the variation of cork should overcome that.
October 7th: Garry's trip to the UK to work up the launch of Arlewood there was a great success. We are excited by our partnership with The Wine Treasury. Check out our wines at the Capital Hotel & The Royal Garden Hotel - two fine places to eat and drink in London.
On the home front - we are taking pre release orders for the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon on the back of the overwhelming response to the 2001 wine. No price change, and true to form with savoury, earthy and concentrated fruit at the core of this wine. Very classy.
September 12th: All Arlewood trade devotees can meet and share a drink with us at the Fine Wines and Spirits Expo at the Sydney Exhibition Centre on Monday 12th from 12:00 till 9:00, Tuesday 13th from 12:00 till 8:00 and Wednesday 14th from 9:00 till 5:00. Come see us!!
August 8th: James Halliday's Wine Companion 2006 is hot off the press and endorses Arlewood with Four and a half stars once again. Pick up your copy of this bible today at all good bookshops.
August 3rd: We are thrilled to announce the appointment of The Wine Treasury of London as our distributors in the UK. James, Julian, Rory and the rest of the team are switched on, passionate and love our wines - just the perfect 'fit' for our launch into the UK. You can contact James at - jdoidge@winetreasury.com
Garry will be visiting London in mid September to help the guys launch the wines at The Restaurant Show. Stay tuned for more.
June 14, 2005: We're on the road again! Bris Vegas (AKA Brisbane) is on the radar this week. To celebrate the trophy result fot the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, we will be showing the full Arlewood range at the Brisbane Wine Festival from Friday the 17th till Sunday the 19th at the Carlton Crest Hotel. Come down to have a drink and a chat with us any afternoon. Yee hah!!!
May 8, 2005: Great news from the press and show circuits today - our 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon has picked up the trophy for the Best Cabernet Sauvignon at the Brisbane Wine Festival, along with the accolade of gaining 5 stars and 96 points as the highest pointed Australian Cabernet Sauvignon in the June/July edition of the The Wine Magazine!!
April 13, 2005: Vintage update V05 - It has been a sensational year for the Arlewood vineyards. The whites are stunning this year, and reds already look good in the winery. We managed to complete the harvest before the deluge hit Margaret River just after Easter. We completed picking on Easter Monday - March 28th.
February 23, 2005: Well London was sunny, if a tad cold. But inside Australia House, it was warm and cosy as the key London Wine Trade came to sample the newest offerings from the Colony. Our wines were a big hit - stay tuned for some exciting news on the UK front for Arlewood fans!
February 8, 2005: It's off to sunny (?) London next week to show off our wines. For all the hordes of Arlewood fans in Europe, jump on a plane, cling to a ferry or hail down a cabby to take you to Australia House on The Strand anytime between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm on Thursday February 17th. Yes - we'll actually be there to talk, listen and share a glass of our finest with you! See you there!
December 24, 2004: It's Christmas tomorrow so it's OK to drink Arlewood till the fat lady sings. Have a merry and safe festive season from all of us at Arlewood. CHEERS!
December 7, 2004: We've recovered from the frantic pace of Wine Australia in Sydney. Great to see so many Arlewood-ites drop by the stand for a taste and a chat. For those of you who uttered the "Arlewood Rocks" password and enjoyed a preview of the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, this particular wine picked up a Gold Medal at last weekend's Margaret River Wineshow (half a point behind the trophy winning Voyager Cabernet!). Special thanks to Iain Sandler and Rachel Bell from the Mezzanine team for placing Arlewood wines in some of Sydney's finest restaurants.
November 15, 2004: The Arlewood army based in Sydney (and anyone else in Sydney next week) can meet and drink with us at Wine Australia 2004 from Friday the 26th to Sunday 28th at the Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre. This is the largest wine show in the Southern Hemisphere, and this bi-annual event is a must do for all wine lovers. Come see us - the password is "Arlewood Rocks". This will get you a sneak preview of our very exciting Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 due for release early next year.
October 15, 2004: Oz Clarke's Wine Buying Guide for 2005 is out now, and as promised here is an extract from his commentary on our Cabernet Merlot & Arlewood in general: " I love it when I discover new properties in regions I thought I knew well. Where have these guys been hiding? And trust Vin du Van to rootle around and smoke them out of their lair so that they can cart a precious few bottles back to England. This is simply breathtaking wine. It does wear a kind of serious look on its face, like all Margaret River Cabernets do, but it isn’t a scowl, there’s nothing ill-humoured about it. It’s just that this red has a truly classic depth of flavour – blackcurrants and black plums mixed with cherry marzipan; coriander seed scent rubbing along with crystallized violet leaves; and the texture has the softness of Danish pastry and a richness almost like syrup. And it’s bone dry … dry to its very heart." Wow - that's a big wrap from one of international wine industry heavyweights. Want to buy some? Click here!
September 27, 2004: The Mezzanine National Roadshow was a great success - there was fantastic response to the new vintages and in particluar the Location 3991 SSB 2002. This wine is very rare and can be bought right here - just click on this. We also have some great specials on right now.
Tour Dates, September 2004:
We are on the road again. As part of the Mezzanine Trade Days, we will be rocking on in all major cities:
Melbourne - Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square, 1100 - 1700 on Monday September 13.
Sydney - The Roof Top Terrace of the Park Hyatt, 1100 - 1700 on Tuesday September 14.
Brisbane - Luxe Brasserie, 1/39 James Street Fortitude Valley, 1100 - 1700 Wednesday September 15
Perth - Bluewater Grill, Applecross, 1400 - 1900 Thursday September 16.
Come and see us, taste the hot new releases and chew the fat. Trade customers only, I'm afraid.
7/7/04: Oz Clarke is one of the real gurus of UK wine press, not to mention a hell of a bloke to boot. He also has a sensational palate. All this is secondary to the thrilling news that he has rated the Arlewood Cabernet Merlot as one of his top wines of the last year; to be featured in his next book, being printed as we slurp errrr....write this. Stay tuned for more detail.
12/6/04: Our good people in Melbourne tell us that Semillon is a dirty word - scorned, ridiculed, relegated to the equivalent of the vinous back bench. What we cry!! We like it, we drink it and we are going to keep making it. So there! For all you discerning quaffers who appreciate the citrussy, savoury and wonderfully food friendly qualities of the Arlewood Semillon - get on down to that icon in Spring Street known affectionately as The Melbourne Supper Club, and order with authority the Arlewood Semillon 2002 in large quantities.
5/6/04: Next Wednesday evening 9th June, 6-8pm at Must Winebar in Perth, catch Arlewood vigneron - Garry Gosatti - behind the bar pouring the latest releases including a preview of the 2002 Chardonnay and the special release 2002 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (a one-off with lashings of French oak and other good stuff!)
29/5/04: I've had a couple of great days in the Melbourne trade, visiting some of the best restaurants and liquor stores with our distributor Patrick Walsh of Cellarhand. If you are Melbourne based call into Randall's in Albert Park, Cloudwine in South Melbourne, Winebins at Prahran, Rathdowne Cellars at North Carlton or Armadale Cellars for a selection of Arlewood wines. The favourites among the sommelliers have been the 2003 Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon, the 2002 Reserve Chardonnay and the 2002 Cabernet Merlot. Restaurants that are featuring Arlewood in Melbourne are Punch Lane, The Deck, Pure South and Pearl. Go get 'em!!
25/5/04: Great press in the the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age "Uncorked" liftout today! The Arlewood Chardonnay Reserve 2001 has picked up 5 STARS ***** - "Classic Margaret River concentration and class.......terrific intensity in the mouth and great refinement and persistence." High praise indeed from Huon and Ralph! Huon has been a fan of the Chardonnay Reserve before - dedicating a whole page to the inaugural 2000 Reserve on release. The bad news - it's almost all evaporated (order now!), the good news - the 2002 edition is even better!! Slated for release toward the end of this year.
14/5/04: Garry will be on tour in Melbourne in a couple of weeks - all Melbourne based Arlewood addicts should get down to Randall The Wine Merchant in Albert Park on Saturday May 29th bewteen 3:00 and 6:00 to have a drink and chat with Garry. He will be in fine form - only if the Dockers get over the Bombers the night before! Pencil it in your diaries.
6/5/04: We are planning the packaging of our 'One Off' 2002 Reserve Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. Do not confuse this wine with our zippy Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend - it is a stand alone wine that was an experiment in the winery. Both components of this wine saw extended time in classy French oak as we had a go at our interpretation of a Graves style dry white wine. Prior to bottling, the wine looked a tad dull, but it has pulled off a Cato (for all you Pink Panther fans) and snuck right up on everyone by topping its class at last December's Margaret River Wine Show (may we add ahead of some of the big names in the MR Graves impersonator stakes). Dry, complex and savoury, our task is now to name the wine - if you have any suggestions, e-mail us to go into a draw to win the first dozen off the packaging line. Only 200 dozen made. Go figure!
3/5/04: Any Perth based Arlewood-ites can meet us and drink with us at the WA Fine Wine Show being held this Friday and Saturday at the Claremont Showgrounds from midday till 8:00 pm. Also, check out the new release (Mar/Apr) edition of WINESTATE magazine for some good reviews on Arlewood wines in the Southern WA tasting.
14/4/04: 970 cases of 2002 Cabernet Merlot fresh off the packaging line today, under the new look Arlewood label and all. This wine has been resting easy since bottling last August, cellared in a temperature controlled warehouse, and now available for your drinking pleasure!
30/3/04: We've been so busy with vintage that I missed giving you the updates, until now that is. The last pick of the 2004 vintage (our cabernet) was harvested last night. All the varieties are now in various stages of fermentation and I am thrilled with the flavours, acid levels, and tannins. Most of the wines are on their way to a combination of oak ferment and maturation, with a trial of wild yeast ferment on a portion of the chardonnay to add further complexity to an already great wine. Good drinking......Garry Gosatti
7/2/04: It is upon us, vintage that is. Our beloved Chardonnay was picked in the cool of early morning last Friday and the Sauvignon Blanc is next. Early signs are great flavours at lower than usual baume, that means slightly less alcolohic wines which will please some, and not others. Hard to please everyone. More reports as vintage progresses....
3/2/04: John Howard (yes, that John Howard, the PM) was spotted at Must Winebar enjoying Riedel's of Arlewood Semillon, Arlewood Chardonnay, Arlewood Shiraz, and Arlewood Cabernet. We have requested a copy of his tasting notes.
Almost one month later....we are still waiting....
Pinot Noir 2002: we finally found someone ( John Fraser actually, the Champagne man of Margaret River) who would agree to bottle our VVS 2002 Pinot Noir with minimal filteration and slow, gentle filling. This wine will remain horizontal for about 6 months before a slow, gentle release to those people who believe in Margaret River pinot.......whoever you are.....
INNOVEST 2003 MARGARET RIVER WINESHOW RESULTS:
Arlewood had a "big day out" today (6th December 2003) with the release of the judging results for this year's Margaret River Wineshow. Gold Medal and best in class for the 2003 Semillon, Silver Medal and best in class for the 2002 Reserve Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc, Silver Medal for the 2002 Reserve Chardonnay and Bronze Medal for the 2001 Shiraz (4 medals from 5 wines entered!).
MARGARET RIVER 2003 WINEFEST SENSATIONAL! What a fabulous day it was on Saturday 15th November 2003 at the Margaret River Winefest Fusion event. Set in the beautiful Cowaramup Pioneer Park, 50 of Margaret River's newest and best wine producers showcased their wines to more than 5000 wine lovers. We were busy at the Arlewood stand, with all our wines on tasting including our 2000 Reserve Cabernet, 2001 Reserve Chardonnay, and the tiny production of 2001 Pinot Noir and our first release 2003 Rose. A count of the empty bottles at the end of the day showed the Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Rose to be most popular (maybe something to do with the glorious sunshine and picnic setting in the park).
WHERE DO YOU GET IT? Buying a bottle of Arlewood wine to take home isn't the easiest thing to do. Our production as an estate only producer is limited, but you'll always find a good selection of Arlewood available at the Norfolk Hotel, 47 South Tce, Fremantle. You can also try your luck at the Cellar Door, but only if it's a Saturday, and even then you've got to be lucky 'cause we're busy in the vineyard most days. Call for an appointment on 08-97556267 (a bit like visiting the doctor.....just as expensive but a lot more fun), or order off the website right now whilst you're logged on.
Some of the serious stuff we promised to "furnish" you with......The past 3 or 4 years have seen an intense viticulture programme in the Arlewood vineyard concentrating on achieving perfect vine balance with low to moderate yields. The results have been very pleasing, and the hard work is now starting to express itself in the quality of the wines. As James Halliday says in his 2003 Australian Wine Companion: The quality and consistency of the Arlewood wines is now impeccable. With a vineyard as well sited as that of Arlewood, it makes sense to let the fruit quality to do the talking.
And talking about fruit, the current line up of wines is all about intense fruit flavours enhanced by excellent winemaking. Check out the What's on Offer page.
